The IED Royal Charter allows us to offer registration at two grades aimed at different levels of experience and expertise.  While the grades can be seen as a stepping stone to the next, each grade is also a recognised stage of professional registration in its own right.

Chartered Technological Product Designer – CTPD

The IED's Charter allows us to award Chartered status to suitably qualified and experienced members who work in product design. This Chartership is on a par with Chartered Engineer, Chartered Environmentalist and other Charters such as Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Accountant. Product design is a structured process which produces a creative three-dimensional object or solution that encompasses technical and humanistic considerations with a clearly defined user and commercial viability to answer a specific problem. For admittance to the grade of Chartered Technological Product Designer a candidate should be able to demonstrate a number of competencies, supported by an evidence base, typically in the form of an Illustrated report and a portfolio. Registered Product Designer - RProdDes
