The Industrial Benchmarking Forum in Engineering Design was created in 2003 as a platform for the sharing of best practice, networking and problem solving for engineering designers.
The Forum consists of a fluid group of members from a wide range of organisations from industry and academia. Representatives meet four or five times annually to talk about relevant issues, with each meeting concentrating on a central theme. Areas discussed so far include:
- Design for X
- Model based engineering
- Knowledge management
- Planning and project management
- Design for manufacture
- Innovation and creativity
Topics for future meetings will include:
- Cost modelling
- Standards and legislation
- Skills training
The aim of the Forum is to improve communications between designers working in varied fields, to share knowledge and help to solve common problems. All participants sign a non-disclosure agreement to ensure confidentiality.
