Engineering Firms Win Queen’s Awards for Enterprise
Several firms from the engineering sector have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the UK’s most prestigious annual accolade for business success.
Amongst this year’s winning companies from the engineering sector are a manufacturer of mobile screening, crushing and shredding equipment (Extec Screens & Crushers Ltd); two divisions of JCB; a maker of underground mining machinery (Joy Mining Machinery Ltd); a provider of wheels for eathmoving equipment and mobile cranes (Titan Steel Wheels Ltd); a deepwater and off-shore engineering company (John Wood Group PLC); a supplier of computer controlled lathes and machining centres (Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd); the developers of portable equipment for determining the exact dimension and shape of pipe ends (Optical Metrology Services Ltd); and the designers of an infra-red, rotating drum dryer for processing plastic materials (UPM Machinery Sales Ltd).
In total, 119 awards have been announced and winning companies come from a variety of business sectors, ranging in size from two firms with just three employees to an international giant employing 68,000 people In fact just under half of this year’s winning firms employ less than 50 people.
