Could you be a mentor?
Would you like to mentor a student who, with a little encouragement, could have a good career in engineering?
An exciting new EDT scheme funded and supported by the Government Department for Education and Skills and the Royal Academy of Engineering, needs members to mentor students in the greater London area, who are taking advantage of this TriSET scheme.
TriSET is targeting people from groups under represented in engineering, particularly women, to encourage interest and participation in engineering and technology.
Students with good level 2/3 qualifications and a capacity for higher education, especially those with an open mind about careers in engineering and technology, are being encouraged to join the scheme, particularly those from under represented community groups in engineering and engineering higher education, whether by ethnicity, gender or through family, educational or economical background.
Mentors will visit students at their work placements, several times during the year and be available to contact via telephone and email on an ongoing basis. This is not a paying job, but all out of pocket expenses will be covered.
Mentors need have no previous experience, but must have the ability to listen and communicate effectively with young men and women from a variety of backgrounds.
