Subscription rates and fees 2008
Membership subscriptions are payable on election and a candidate’s election will not be ratified unless they have paid their subscription for the current year. Thereafter the annual subscription shall be due and payable annually on the anniversary of the member’s election date as shown on the Diploma or Certificate of Membership.
Members choosing to pay by Direct Debit will be offered a £5 discount on their membership.
New bands of membership fees have been introduced for members resident in some countries. Members who live in these countries and earn the local rate of pay (ie non-UK or USA rates) are entitled to a reduction in their membership fees for 2006 onwards.

Application fee
Payment should be sent with the application form for new and upgrading members.
Entrance fee
Payable at the time the Engagement Form is signed and returned to the Institution, following notice that the applicant has been accepted as a member of the Institution.
Transfer fee
Payable at the time an application is submitted for upgrading and in all cases, except Fellow, will be charged at £25. When upgrading, no Entrance Fee is required.

With effect from 1 January 2008 the registration fees for members whose names are on the Engineering Council’s Register of Engineers are as shown below. These fees are collected with member’s annual subscriptions.

Tax Relief
The Inland Revenue have approved the Institution for the purpose of tax relief on subscriptions under Section 192 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1970 (Ref:List 3B page 38, issue Dec 1991). Tax relief is also given on Engineering Council registration fees paid through the IED.
