References, proposers and referees
References and will be needed to support your application for Institution membership and the IED will write to all referees.
Your referees will need to have known you in a professional capacity for at least two years and they are able to comment on your work. Ideally, they should be corporate members of a recognised professional body/engineering institution.
Applicants for Member will need to supply one proposer, plus two other referees.
If you are applying for Associate or Competent Draughting Associate, one proposer and one referee is required.
If you are applying for registration as a Chartered Engineer, two of the referees will ideally be Chartered Engineers.
At least one referee should be from your current employment. If your current employment is of less than two years, your employment reference will be in addition to those who have known you two years.
In the case of self-employed applicants, at least one reference shall be from someone who has used your services.
