Exemplifying qualifications for membership and ECUK registration
MEng
Once you have gained your MEng ECUK after 1999, there are some additional requirements before you can apply for IED membership and registration if required:
- 4 years’ appropriate experience to meet UKSPEC requirements
Providing you meet the additional requirements, you should be able to apply for MIED and CEng.

BEng (Hons), BEng, BSc (Hons), BSc
Once you have gained your qualifications there are some additional requirements before you can apply for IED membership and ECUK registration if required:
- 3 years’ appropriate experience to meet UKSPEC requirements
Providing you meet the additional requirements, you should be able to apply for MIED and IEng.

HNC, HND or ONC
Once you have gained your HNC, HND or ONC, there are some additional requirements before you can apply for IED membership and ECUK registration if required:
- 3 years’ appropriate experience to meet UKSPEC requirements
- Age 22 years or older
Providing you meet the additional requirements, you will be able to apply for AIED/MIED and EngTech.

Shortfall or no post-18 academic qualifications
If you have no post-18 academic qualifications, you will still able to apply but you must demonstrate through the writing of a technical report that you have acquired the necessary engineering knowledge, and that you are currently fulfilling the role of CEng/IEng (whichever is applied for).
