IED Prize


For Final Year Students on IED Accredited Degree Courses

This annual prize is awarded to final year students who attain the best project mark. This would normally be a first class grade. The award is based on an assessment of the final year individual project report.

Nominations should be made on the enclosed nomination form by the course leader. Nominations this year are restricted to one award per course.

The IED accept that final year individual projects from different institutions are likely to have different emphases and learning outcomes. The following are listed below as guidelines for the submission:

The project report submission must include:

  • A project brief
  • Photograph or rendering of the prototype/solution
  • Evidence of the design process
  • Evidence of research and analysis

The submission  should  also normally include:

  • Summary of research undertaken including definition of customer/market
  • A product design specification
  • Evidence of how the final concept was selected and evaluated
  • Consideration of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Evidence of calculations or analysis
  • Evidence of testing and evaluation as appropriate
  • Tutor evaluation of industrial involvement/support etc if appropriate

NB Any elements not covered in the submitted project report should, if possible, be provided as additional paperwork.

The IED Prize consists of a trophy, a certificate endorsed by the Institution and one year’s free Graduate membership of the Institution.
