Innovation for Sustainability a new paradigm for business leadership 2 day course
18-19th June 2008
The University College for the Creative Arts, Farnham, Surrey, UK
Organised by: The Centre for Sustainable Design
The growing global concern over climate change, resource productivity and more broadly sustainable development calls for new rules for innovation. A sustainable, low carbon economy will require a paradigm shift in thinking and doing. Time is short and the clock is ticking. A global sustainability strategy often focuses on risks and compliance, however the imperative for change requires new approaches to strategic business development and product innovation. Customers - whether they are consumers, retailers, businesses or government - are demanding sustainable solutions. Organisations must Adapt or Die. Innovation for Sustainability will inform and inspire, helping delegates to understand global trends, threats, and opportunities. Delegates will create their own personal and corporate route map for sustainable innovation and effective strategies for implementation.

Inter Multi Trans Actions Symposium
Thursday 26 June, 2008
Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Creative Industries
Napier University
Merchiston Campus
10 Colinton Road
Edinburgh EH10 5DT
This one day symposium will bring together a number of leading practitioners from the fields of art, architecture and design who each share a common desire to exploit the latest computing technologies in their creative practice. The invited speakers will reveal their cutting edge work that blurs the traditional boundaries of the creative disciplines.
Emerging trends in post-disciplinary creative practice highlight the interplay of conventional boundaries. "New hybrids of design are emerging. People don't fit in neat categories; they're a mixture of artists, engineers, designers, thinkers. They're in that fuzzy space and might be finding it quite tough, but the results are really exciting." [West, D., A New Generation, Icon, 2007, 43(January), pp. 56 - 64]
The aim of this event is to inspire and inform the symposium delegates of the significance of this trans-disciplinary research and its impact for creative practice in the UK. This event will appeal to a wide audience including practitioners, researchers, educators, industrialists and stakeholders involved in the creative industries.

3rd International Conference on Rapid Manufacturing
9th & 10th July 2008
Holywell Park, Loughborough University, UK
Following the success of the 2007 International Conference on Rapid Manufacturing, which was attended by over 150 delegates from 18 countries, the 2008 RM conference is set to take place on the 9th & 10th of July 2008. The conference will be hosted by the Rapid Manufacturing Research Group at Loughborough University in the UK.
The 2-day conference will feature a state-of-the-art mixture of world-leading industrial applications and cutting-edge academic research currently being undertaken in the field of Rapid Manufacturing.
Rapid Manufacturing is one of the most exciting emergent technologies available to global industry today. RM uses 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) data to directly 'print' or 'grow' parts in a variety of polymeric, metallic, ceramic and organic materials. RM allows companies to cost effectively manufacture ever more complex and optimized components at very low unit volumes. It is suggested that RM could enable a step-change for manufacturers that will ultimately result in manufacturing being maintained in high wage economies.
The international RM conference is one of the world's only conferences dedicated to the use of additive manufacturing technologies for end-use 'production' part applications.
On-line bookings and payment can be made at www.rm-conference.com. The delegate fee is £360+VAT per delegate.

UVAC Annual Conference 2008
13th and 14th November 2008
Royal York Hotel, York
This year's conference will be focused on excellence in identifying and then delivering the higher level work-based learning employers and employees want and need in the context of future UK skills requirements. Drawing on national and international good practice, specific focus will be given to innovative and successful approaches to defining knowledge and skills needs, developing flexible learning programmes based on these needs, marketing to employers and employees, assessment and validation, funding (including employer co-funding), quality and widening participation.
As in previous years, a key theme of the conference will also be the role of further education colleges in higher education delivery. Therefore, in addition to workshops and plenary sessions for higher education delegates and partner organisations, a dedicated concurrent track is also being organised, focusing on strategic and practical work-based learning for Mixed Economy Further Education Colleges.
More information on our conference is available here.
