Yes, there are still engineering businesses that offer apprenticeships. The Engineering Connections website has apprenticeships details.
Engineering Council careers
The Engineering Council UK (ECUK) sets the internationally recognised standards of professional competence and ethics for engineers, technologists and technicians. On the ECUK website is information about accredited engineering qualifications and links to a host of useful sites.
Engineers@work
An interactive cd aims to encourage more young people to consider a career in engineering. Aimed primarily at school careers advisers and teachers, the free cd highlights the wide range of exciting careers in the sector and provides practical information on routes into the profession.
Called engineers@work the cd's contents cover:
- The various routes into engineering careers and the salaries, prospects and working environments on offer;
- Examples of the creative and challenging roles for engineers worldwirde; and
- Case studies and sources of further information.

Work placements
Work placements as part of a degree course are an important part of career development. The HEIs have placement programmes and the Institution offers a service in support of these. Many students find placements with companies for which IED members work.
