Event for Anglian Members - Tornado Presentation
Date: 16th February
Location: Lucas Room, Cameo Hotel, Copdock, Ipswich
Mike Bowen who is the Regional Co-ordinator for the Anglia region would like to present the first scheduled Anglia regional event for 2012: a presentation by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust covering 60163 Tornado.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust was created in 1990 with the aim of constructing a new steam locomotive from original designs whilst utilising the latest available technology.
The resulting Tornado locomotive is a re-creation and not a restoration. The construction will be illustrated using original engineering drawings and the use of new components. Accompanying these illustrations will be a description of the engineering behind the creation of parts comparing the resources to hand today with those used in relation to the original production.
The locomotive works in Darlington where Tornado has been assembled will be shown, together with details of the first tests from 2008 on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough allowing her then to successfully undertake fast mainline trial runs.
Finally, hopes and aspirations for the future, latest news on Tornado's mainline tours and heritage line visits as well as the Trust's concept to build a new LNER P2 class locomotive will conclude the presentation.
Event details are as follows:
Date: Thursday 16th February 2012
Time: 7:00pm for 7:30pm start
